COMPETITORS BRIEFING

  1. Race Bib number to be worn and kept VISIBLE at all times. Individual competitors pin bib down. Team competitors please ensure number can be read at all times. YOUR RACE BIB IS TO BE RETURNED TO OFFICIALS AT THE END OF THE RACE. IF WITHDRAWING FROM THE RACE PLEASE HAND IN YOUR BIB TO A COURSE OFFICIAL
  2. Course sign-posted with "Canoe & Kayak Ltd." signs at regular intervals, but you must familiarise yourself with the course in advance
  3. ROAD RULES MUST BE OBEYED AT ALL TIMES. At no time are any roads closed to the public - VEHICLES HAVE RIGHT OF WAY
  4. Course Marshals are NOT Traffic Officers. They indicate one of the following
    • Change direction – slow down, obey road rules
    • Congested area – slow down, beware of people and traffic
  5. RACE NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY DISPLAYED TO THE FRONT. IF NOT YOU WILL NOT BE RECORDED AS FINISHING THE EVENT. It is your responsibility to ensure that your number is clearly displayed and recorded
  6. Prorack Mountain Bike Stage
    TRANSITION AREA - ALL COMPETITORS MUST GO THROUGH THE TRANSITION STAGE OFF THEIR BIKES. This is a gravel road, keep left at all times
    Noakes Hill Road Incline: If walking allow those riding the right-of-way, i.e. clear yourself well left of obvious cycle line. Krippner Road Decline: This is a DANGEROUS, steep decline with bad cambers and gravel on sharp corners, plus oncoming traffic. Ride within your limits. Keep well to the left on all corners and remember you cannot claim a prize in hospital!
    NOTE! SUPPORT CREW VEHICLES BANNED ON MOUNTAIN BIKE COURSE - be prepared to service your own breakdowns on this section
  7. Kayak Entry There is a cleared area of bank at the back of the Park, flagged for entry. You may have the assistance of one supporter. Kayaks are not to be moved from the transition area until Kayaker is ready. Entry to the water is on a FIRST IN, FIRST SERVE basis, be patient LIFE JACKETS MUST BE WORN
    Kayakers turn right when entering the main river at fork and go down river to Wenderholm. Kayakers must keep to the right-hand side of the channel when approaching on-coming craft and at all corners. Kayaks finish on the left of the boat ramp (as you look from the water). Look for the flagged area. Kayaker must run through the Park to the Finish Shute. Follow the "Canoe & Kayak Ltd" signs and give way to the public, as the Park is open to the Public

If you are at the scene of any accident please give assistance as required and relay a message of help via the next competitor

TIME SAVING IDEAS

Drop off your Kayak and Mountain Bike at transition areas before the race

IMPORTANT! IF THE COMPETITOR(S) YOU ARE SUPPORTING FAIL TO ARRIVE AT A TRANSITION AREA NOTIFY THE TRANSITION MARSHAL OF THEIR NUMBERS FOR LOCATION



IMPORTANT POINTS TO BE OBSERVED

  1. NO PARKING at the end of Rimmer Road. Use designated parking areas
  2. NO PARKING in immediate area of road end at check-in. Parking one side of road only facing forest entrance where directed
  3. ONE supporter only may assist in each transition area
  4. OBSERVE ALL ROAD RULES Extreme care at all intersections
  5. NO SUPPORTERS VEHICLES are to travel over the Mountain Bike Course in the interests of safety. Travel via Silverdale/Orewa to Puhoi
  6. KAYAK ACCESS is limited, patience may be required
  7. ALL PADDLERS must wear a buoyancy vest or life jacket
  8. Puhoi River will be patrolled BUT it is impossible to be everywhere at once. Please assist fellow competitors if required
  9. KAYAKERS must run through Wenderholm Park to Finish
  10. RACE NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY DISPLAYED AT EACH TRANSITION
  11. IF NOT, YOU WILL BE RECORDED AS NOT COMPLETING THE EVENT
  12. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that your number is recorded
  13. Prize giving will be held at 2.00 pm. Any competitor still on the course will have their numbers included in the drawing of spot prizes

SUPPORT CREW BRIEFING

  1. Familiarise yourself with the Transition Maps
  2. The success of the event is with you the support crews
    Rule No 1 - courtesy to ALL competitors not just your own entrants
  3. When exiting parking area - GIVE WAY to cyclists and incoming forestry traffic, faze into the left lane clear of cyclists
  4. Drive from Road Bike Transition to Mountain Bike Transition takes approximately 30 minutes, travelling WITHIN speed limits. Do not speed, Traffic Police are in attendance
  5. Park at Mountain Bike Transition as per map 2 or as directed
  6. SUPPORT VEHICLES ARE BANNED ON MOUNTAIN BIKE COURSE
    This is a rough gravel road. Be fair to your competitor and give them a fair go. The following route is the quickest: Exit Car park, return down Makarau Road to SH16 travel via Kaukapakapa, Kahikatea Flat Road and Pine Valley Road. Take Motor way extension north to avoid Silverdale and Orewa. Travel past Wenderholm Regional Park to Puhoi turn off on the left. This drive takes ap-proximately 45 to 50 minutes
    DO NOT PANIC - a better than average mountain biker will take 55 minutes to ride the course
  7. PUHOI
    After 11.00am vehicles must not cross over the bridge opposite the pub , to avoid congestion with Mountain Bikes. If kayaks need to be carried to rear of the park it is best to drop these off before the race starts. Kayak transition will be manned from 6.30am
  8. WENDERHOLM REGIONAL PARK
    Obey Park speed restrictions please. DO NOT block access to the boat ramp and respect public rights to use the Park. Assist to clear your competitors kayak from the landing area as quickly as possible
    NO DOGS ALLOWED WITHIN THE PARK
