Here at the Kaukapakapa Scouts we run this event on a voluntary basis to raise money for our Keas, Cubs and Scouts. This makes it easier for us to continue to plan for Level 1 or2 and with this in mind we are offering the following options in case we do have to cancel the event due to Covid-19 restrictions:

  • Transfer entry fees to next year

  • Full entry fee refund

  • Donate all or some of the entry fee to Kaukapakapa Scouts


This multisport race traverses the Rodney district from Muriwai beach on the west coast to Wenderholm Regional Park on the east coast and consists of:

  • 10 Km forest Run

  • 30 Km Road bike

  • 25 Km Mountain Bike

  • 8 Km Paddle

  • 100 m run to the finish

This iconic event has been organized and run by the Kaukaupakapa Scout Group for 24 Years. The race attracts over 300 participants from the Auckland area and beyond. Individuals and teams are welcome to enter this family friendly day – so are you up for the challenge?

100% of event profits go towards purchasing new equipment, hiring facilities and other activities for the Kaukapakapa Scout group

Course Description

The Futureproof Life Rodney Coast Challenge multisport course description is as follows:

  • 10 Km Forest Run, from Muriwai beach to Rimmer Road forest entrance

  • 30 Km Road Bike stage heads out from Rimmer Road on to S.H. 16 through Helensville, Kaukapakapa, and onto Makarau

  • 25 Km Mountain Bike stage heads up the Makarau Valley onto Tahekeroa Road, right into Upper Waiwera then on to Noakes Hill. Right into Krippner Road and then descends into Puhoi

  • 8 Km Kayak down the Puhoi River starting at the back of the Puhoi Park and finishing at Wenderholm Park, with a 100 m sprint to the finish

The Rodney Coast Challenge is a great multisport event for individuals, teams and for experienced athletes and novices alike. With four short stages the race will take between 3 and 6 hours, to find out the best way to manage this event read up on Rob’s Tips to get you going.
